Private by design. This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is processed on your own device and is not uploaded by DO101.
About the Video to MP3
Turn a video into an MP3 in your browser: a lecture, a Zoom or Teams recording, a phone video, a screen recording or a video you uploaded yourself. Pick the quality from 128 to 320 kbps, trim to just the part you want, and switch to mono for speech to halve the size. The audio is decoded by your own browser and encoded to MP3 on your device, so the file is never uploaded — there is no size-limited server queue, no watermark, no sign-up and no cost.
How to use it
- 1Drop a video or audio file in, or tap Choose file — MP4, MOV, WebM, M4A and WAV all work.
- 2Pick the MP3 quality. 192 kbps suits most things; 128 kbps with Mono is plenty for speech.
- 3Optionally type a start and end time to keep only part of it.
- 4Press Convert to MP3, listen to the result, and download it.

What people convert to MP3
Lectures and lessons
Listen again on the bus. 128 kbps with Mono keeps an hour-long lecture around 55 MB.
Zoom, Teams and Meet recordings
Keep the conversation, drop the video. Meeting recordings are usually MP4 and convert directly.
Phone videos
A concert clip, a voice memo filmed by accident, a child's first song — straight from your camera roll.
Your own YouTube uploads
Download the original from YouTube Studio, then convert it here to publish as a podcast.
Screen recordings and tutorials
Pull the narration out to edit it, transcribe it or reuse it.
Music you made
Export your video edit, then share the soundtrack as an MP3 anything can play.
Which files can be converted
The audio is decoded by your browser’s own media engine, so what it can read depends on the browser rather than on DO101.
| Format | Converts in |
|---|---|
| MP4, MOV, M4V | Every current browser |
| WebM | Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari 15 or later |
| M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV | Every current browser |
| OGG, Opus, FLAC | Chrome, Edge and Firefox; recent Safari |
| MKV, AVI, WMV, 3GP | Depends on the browser and the codec inside — Chrome and Edge read the most |
How it converts without uploading
Most online converters send your video to a server, convert it there and send the MP3 back — which means a size limit, a queue, and a copy of your file on somebody else’s computer. This one does the whole job on your device.
Your browser reads the video’s sound track with the Web Audio API, the same decoder it uses to play video. The samples are then encoded to MP3 by lamejs, a JavaScript build of the LAME encoder, running on this page. Nothing is sent anywhere, so it works just as well on a train with no signal once the page has loaded.
Converting a YouTube video? DO101 does not download from YouTube — see the YouTube page for the permitted ways to get a video you own, then bring the file back here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an MP4 to MP3?
Drop the MP4 onto this page, choose a quality, and press Convert to MP3. The audio track is decoded and re-encoded as an MP3 on your own device, and a download button appears when it is done. The same works for MOV, WebM, M4V and most other video files.
Is this video to MP3 converter really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no daily limit and no paid tier. Because the conversion runs on your own device, it costs DO101 nothing to run, so there is nothing to charge for.
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser decodes the audio itself and the MP3 encoder (lamejs) runs as JavaScript on this page. There is no upload endpoint behind the tool — you can disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded and it still works.
Which MP3 quality should I choose?
192 kbps is a good default for music and sounds the same as the source to most listeners. 320 kbps is the highest MP3 allows. For lectures, podcasts and voice notes, 128 kbps with Mono switched on is clear and about a quarter of the size of 320 kbps stereo.
Can I convert only part of a video?
Yes. Type a start time and an end time, such as 1:30 and 4:05, and only that section becomes an MP3. The estimated file size updates as you type.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no limit set by DO101, but the whole audio track is held in your browser's memory while it converts. Files up to about an hour convert comfortably on a laptop; very long or very large files can run out of memory, especially on phones. Trimming, or choosing Mono, helps.
Why won't my file convert?
The browser has to be able to decode the audio itself. MP4, MOV, M4A, WebM, MP3, WAV and OGG work in every current browser. AVI, WMV, MKV and some older formats depend on the browser — Chrome and Edge read the most. A video with no sound track has nothing to convert.
Can I convert a YouTube video to MP3?
DO101 does not download from YouTube, because YouTube's Terms of Service do not allow it. If the video is yours, download the original from YouTube Studio, then drop that file here to get an MP3. For anyone else's video, YouTube Premium offers offline listening inside the app.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other current mobile browsers. Choose the video from your photo library or files. Long videos need more memory than a phone may have, so trim them or switch on Mono.
